Youth Detention Officers at the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre are sick and tired according to the members, clients and even Australian Workers Union (AWU) and Together Union (TU) Delegates and members who came along for the meetings.
Â
Our meetings at the Workers First and Australia Prison Officers Association (APOA) offices over the past several weeks and they have proven to be unilaterally informative and supportive for people going through the various disciplinary, investigative and workers compensation processes.

Youth Detention Officers are reported extraordinarily high absenteeisms at the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre.
Â
One Youth Detention Officer reported "there is such an unhealthy culture and managerial malpractice at this Centre, that we don't know how much longer they (the Department) can keep a lid on things" .
Â
When asked what this meant, the Youth Detention Officer told us that there was an increasing concern for the health and safety of Youth Detention Officers and Youth Workers throughout the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre and the concern for the welfare and best interests of the children being held at the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre seemed to be getting lost in the confusion of maladministration.
Â
There will be another meeting scheduled in the last week of July 2019 with members of Workers First and the Australian Prison Officers Association (APOA).
