On 4 April 2019, Queensland's Department of Corrective Services (DCS) released a media statement announcing that it had referred complaints to the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) concerning the alleged conduct of three (3) Prison Officers working at the Capricornia Correctional Centre in Rockhampton.

DCS also announced that the Prison Officers had been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation and then reassured the public that it is "a top tier front line public safety agency, QCS expects the highest ethical and professional standards from our officers."
Â
Sadly, the construct of the media release would lead an average reader to believe that these Prison Officers are guilty, even before the outcome of the investigation is known.
Â
The Australian Prison Officers Association and Workers First are committed to supporting Prison Officers throughout these investigations and we think it is important that there is a strict adherence to the procedural fairness principles, which these Prison Officers are entitled to enjoy and benefit from.
Â
The Australian Prison Officers Association and Workers First has extended support to all Prison Officers concerned in this investigation.
