Management Cover-ups Rife at Townsville Correctional Centre say Townsville Prison Officers
The Australian Prison Officers Association (APOA) was recently in Townsville assisting members and clients of Workers First and we were approached by several Prison Officers wanting to share their experiences working at Townsville Correctional Centre (TCC).
"We are sick of the double standards" say the Prison Officers at Townsville Correctional Centre.
In a Department riddled with double standards, usually at the disadvantage of Prison Officers, it's time now for the Department to call into question some of the management practices of the State's northern and remote areas.
Prison Officers in Townsville and elsewhere in Queensland have been disciplined and even dismissed from their employment for allegedly not reporting incidents up the line.
Yet in this incident on 1 September 2018, Prison Officers told the Australian Prison Officers Association that they had intercepted the Human Resources Manager as she attempted to gain un-authorised access to the Prison's gatehouse vehicle lock in her private vehicle.
When Prison Officers then took photos and commenced preparing a report about the "code Purple" incident, they were allegedly warned off by senior managers and told to "leave it alone".
The Prison Officers we have spoken to allege that they were then directed to destroy all photographs taken of the incident and to destroy all reports and drafts concerning the serious breach of Prison security.
The Australian Prison Officers Association is currently assisting Prison Officers in drafting formal complaints to the Queensland Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) about the action of Management members which may well amount to official corruption.
