Hamish Hastie (The Sydney Morning Herald)
The worker killed at the Big Bell underground mine in Western Australia’s Mid West region on Wednesday has been named as 25-year-old Paige Counsell.
Ms Counsell was struck by mobile plant equipment at the Big Bell mine but died while being transported to a Perth hospital via the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
In a statement, Westgold said Ms Counsell was a valued member of its mining services arm Minterra.
“The company again expresses its deepest sympathy to Paige’s family, friends and colleagues,” it said.
“Westgold is engaged with Paige’s family to ensure they are supported throughout this difficult time.”
The company has been given the all clear from the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety to resume operations at the mine near Cue, about 350 kilometres east of Kalbarri.
