PRISON INTELLIGENCE UNIT SUPERVISOR

Langi Kal Kal (LKK) Prison is on the Western Highway at Trawalla, 150 kilometres west of Melbourne. The prison, is a male minimum-security facility, focused on preparing prisoners for their transition back into the community.

About the role

Corrections Victoria Intelligence Service (CVIS) is the overarching intelligence service for Corrections Victoria and its stakeholders, and forms part of the Security and Emergency Services Group.

In this role, you will proactively assist prison management to maintain the security and good order of prison facilities by gathering, recording, analysing and disseminating information in order to:

  • prevent prisoner escapes

  • prevent the introduction and usage of contraband within the prison

  • identify possible prisoner incidents/unrest.

As the Prison Intelligence Unit Supervisor, you will:

  • primarily provide a centrally located and identifiable focal point within the prison facility for all intelligence related matters

  • provide leadership and direction into the ongoing development and coordination of the Prison Intelligence Unit

  • supervise and assist in, the collection, collation, recording and analysis of particular information available to the prison intelligence unit

  • assist prison management, staff and external agencies by participating in intelligence led prison operations.

About you

As the successful candidate, you will have:

  • successfully completed the Corrections Victoria Intelligence Course or equivalent

  • the Victorian Prison Officer Pre Service training or completed training in an equivalent jurisdiction

  • demonstrated knowledge of, and the ability to apply relevant legislation, policy and procedure relating to CV and the management of its prison facilities

  • demonstrated knowledge of, and the ability to use, computer software such as Microsoft Office Word and Excel, internal CV computer system, including Protel and e-mail

  • demonstrated knowledge and experience with the operation of the prisoner telephone system, prisoner mail, and prisoner visit lists

  • Strong communication skills and an analytical mind.

About the Role

The forensic Mental Health & AOD Team provides primary care to 1470 prisoners in custody at Acacia Prison, Wooroloo, Western Australia. 


The Team Leader will have the responsibility for the clinical leadership, management and ongoing development of forensic Mental Health and AOD service in accordance with the Prisons Act 1981.


Key Accountabilities

  • Assessment, care planning, review and discharge planning of individual caseload, management of a caseload or prisoner group

  • Liaise with and act upon referrals, from medical officers and other primary care staff,  consultants and other statutory bodies

  • Provide regular caseload management and clinical supervisory function to Mental Health /AOD team

  • Ensure systems are in place for all Mental Health/AOD within the area

  • Operational management of Team :

    • Complaints

    • Sickness & absence management

    • Statutory training

    • Appraisal

    • Personal development planning

    • Managing employee capability

  • Ensure that staff and Clinical Governance arrangements are in place to maximise patient safety and minimise risk

  • Accountable for the performance of the forensic Mental Health Team / AOD Team providing regular reports and delivering key result areas


Key Requirements

  • Registered Nurse –Division  1 with Australian Health Practitioner Regulatory Agency (AHPRA) - essential

  • A commitment to excellence in Mental Health / AOD nursing practice and continuing professional development

  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership role within a corrections setting would be an advantage
